[Monitoring] POP and IMAP access issues

We are currently working to resolve issues with our POP and IMAP servers that is causing access issues for email clients that are connecting to our services.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the problem.

UPDATE 2025-08-22  18:30 CEST (16:30 UTC, 12:30 AM EDT, 9:30 AM PDT)

We have completed the replacement of SSD disks and we don’t expect any further disruptions to the service.

We’re planning to replace one of the storage units that have displayed separate hardware issues and will provide more information about this as it becomes available.

UPDATE 2025-08-20  14:30 CEST (12:30 UTC, 8:30 AM EDT, 5:30 AM PDT)

Another SSD disk is having issues which degrades service performance and the disk is therefore being replaced.

Investigations thus far indicate that the set of disks that are having problems have only been utilized 15-20% of their expected lifespan, pointing to a manufacturing problem with these disks that we will address with the vendor.

UPDATE 2025-08-20  10:00 CEST (08:00 UTC, 4:00 AM EDT, 1:00 AM PDT)

We are having issues with a storage unit again and are working to resolve these.

we apologize for the inconvenience caused and expect access to be restored shortly.

UPDATE 2025-08-19  15:40 CEST (13:40 UTC, 9:40 AM EDT, 6:40 AM PDT)

We are continuing the work to replace disks in the storage units as necessary so that no disks of the failing type remain in the servers. It may be necessary to restart servers at times which may cause some temporary and short-lived access issues.

UPDATE 2025-08-17  22:00 CEST (20:00 UTC, 4:00 PM EDT, 1:00 PM PDT)

We are restarting a storage unit which may cause inaccessibility for a short time. This could occur several times and the server might need replacement on Monday.

UPDATE 2025-08-17  17:30 CEST (15:30 UTC, 11:30 AM EDT, 08:30 AM PDT)

The situation has now stabilized after having replacing and rebuilding a number of failing SSD disks. We are investigating how the disks could fail within such a short time frame, despite such disks having a certain durability depending on utilization and having been used evenly since they were originally installed.

UPDATE 2025-08-17  13:30 CEST (11:30 UTC, 7:30 AM EDT, 04:30 AM PDT)

We are continuing to replace and rebuild failing disks while following several rebuild and cloning strategies to ensure there is adequate redundancy.

Services will continue to be intermittently degraded while work is proceeding as quickly and safely as possible.

UPDATE 2025-08-17  11:30 CEST (09:30 UTC, 5:30 AM EDT, 02:30 AM PDT)

There are unfortunately more SSD disks of the same type that are failing today, and we are replacing these while rebuilding their data as quickly as possible.

UPDATE 2025-08-16  19:00 CEST (17:00 UTC, 1:00 PM EDT, 10:00 AM PDT)

We are currently replacing all SSD disks of the type that have been failing, and restarting servers as necessary.

We apologize for the instabilities this is causing while work is ongoing.

UPDATE 2025-08-16 15:00 CEST (13:00 UTC, 09:00 EDT, 06:00 PDT)

We have discovered another failing SSD disk which is now being replaced as quickly and safely as possible. We apologize for the slowness and access problems experienced while work is ongoing.

UPDATE 2025-08-15 11:00 CEST (09:00 UTC, 05:00 EDT, 02:00 PDT)

We have performed another restart of the storage unit in question in order to clear up stuck processes that were causing access issues for some users. We expect this to fully resolve the problem and apologize for the inconvenience caused.

UPDATE 2025-08-14 14:00 CEST (12:00 UTC, 08:00 EDT, 05:00 PDT)

After replacing two SSD disks and restarting services, operations are now normalizing. POP, IMAP, and web access should now be restored.

UPDATE 2025-08-14 13:00 CEST (11:00 UTC, 07:00 EDT, 04:00 PDT)

The POP/IMAP issues have unfortunately returned and indications now point to physical problems with one of the storage units. Our system administrators are continuing to investigate the issue in order to find a solution as quickly and safely as possible.

UPDATE 2025-08-14 12:30 CEST (10:30 UTC, 06:30 EDT, 03:30 PDT)

After restarting a central storage unit we are now restarting the POP/IMAP servers and all services should return to normal operations shortly.
